Fellow Mainers, it’s that time of year again. No, I’m not talking about Christmas, but the time that Facebook decides to release a new profile design.
I feel your pain, but this one’s different. I promise.
In the latest round of updates, Facebook has released “Timeline“, changing the user’s profile into a roadmap of past activity since first signing up. Users can add landmarks, important events, and easily scroll back and see what they posted a few months, or a few years ago. I’ve had the Facebook Timeline for a couple months, and it’s pretty comical to take a look back at the strange things I posted during high school. Take a look at this gem I found below:
The more I scrolled through my past, the more I realized that this latest round of updates is not only aesthetic, but builds an emotional connection. For the past five years, I’ve been keeping a online, interactive diary of my life…and didn’t even know it.
If you’re worried about privacy, I understand your concern. Take some time to review the settings. There’s a little bit of a learning curve, but I’m confident users will see the benefits quickly. Still don’t understand what’s going on? Take a look at this video below.

(Update: There’s no telling when these changes will happen. But it will happen soon)
